About an hour after the Mississippi Senate convened this morning, lawmakers in the chamber agreed unanimously to shorten the session to 104 calendar days.
Now the bill moves to the House for consideration.
Originally, incoming Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant said he wanted to shorten the session 90 days, but he has since said that would not be enough time. Bryant estimates shortening the session would save about $500,000, by cutting back on per diem salaries, mileage and other costs.
Gov. Haley Barbour has said he is supportive of the proposal.
