Michael Recio has been reassigned from his job as assistant police chief – back to reporting to Jackson Mayor Frank Melton.
The move comes more than a month after Melton promoted Recio, who had been one of the mayor’s bodyguards. The promotion was unpopular within Jackson Police Department ranks, with the police union accusing Melton of cronyism and of overlooking other officers for promotions.
Melton said Wednesday night that Recio would be in charge of the city’s new truancy initiative and will work to help keep kids in school.
