Pondering a gubernatorial field for 2011

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 20, 2007

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Editorial, 11/20/7

Results from the Nov. 6 general election solidify Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood and Republican Lt. Gov.-elect Phil Bryant as the front runners in the 2011 race for the governor’s mansion.

State Auditor Bryant, whose campaign centered on his pledge to work closely with Gov. Haley Barbour, actually received more votes in his election for the open post of lieutenant governor than Barbour did in his re-election effort.

Of course, it is not likely that Bryant would be handed the Republican nomination for governor without a fight. Most figure outgoing Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck also would be interested in the post.
