Barbour’s post-Katrina leadership shows

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 10, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 9/9/7

With recent news coverage of the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, it’s appropriate to recognize Gov. Haley Barbour’s leadership during and after the worst natural disaster in our nation’s history.

Some people seem to have forgotten how bad Katrina was. Those who criticize the recovery effort should consider the following facts:

Gov. Barbour’s work in Washington has resulted in $23 billion from the federal government.
More than 66 percent of families forced into FEMA trailers after Katrina now have permanent housing.
Gov. Barbour started the Homeowner Grant Program which has helped people who lost everything rebuild by providing more than $1 billion.
