Debate flares on convicted officials

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 16, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 8/16/7

Two current circuit clerks convicted of felonies have renewed a debate that goes back more than a dozen years over when an official convicted of a crime can be removed from office.

Former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ed Pittman has said that Binky Vines Jr. of Adams County and Burnell Harris of Jefferson County should have been removed from office and not allowed to seek re-election.
