Democrats say they’re ready to ‘change course’ at rally
Mississippi’s Democratic party Chairman Wayne Dowdy summed up the tone of a political rally Saturday with three words: “Let’s change course.”
Twenty-one candidates spoke enthusiastically and optimistically about the party’s future at the rally, which drew more than 200 people to the Forrest County Multi Purpose Center.

Dismay about the high grocery taxes and disgust the low cigarette tax were other common themes brought out in speeches and trough talk in the crowds, Dowdy said.
Participating candidates ranged from those running for local tax assessors to superintendent of education – and on up to the state’s top post.
John Arthur Eaves, Jr., one of six candidates for governor including incumbent Republican Haley Barbour, spoke late in the day.
