Partisanship can be poison when it overrules people’s choices

It’s fine for politicians to be strictly partisan. That’s what politicians do.

People, however, are best served if they retain skepticism and avoid becoming cheerleaders for one team or the other.

That’s getting harder and harder, given that the press, especially the national folks, have turned a conversation on any topic into a sporting event.

Listen. You’ll be amazed at how often you hear phrases such as, “In a big loss for President Bush today, Congress voted …” or “Senate Republicans were able to score a victory…”
