The Clarion-Ledger, 6/22/7

A Ward 1 resident who is a former city worker is considering a run for the Jackson City Council seat being vacated today by Ben Allen.

“I’ll have to pray about that,” said potential candidate Bubba Weir, vice president for community services at Mississippi Technology Alliance.

Real estate developer Henry Michel, brother of state Sen. Walter Michel, has considered running for the post in recent years. Henry Michel, a Republican, said Thursday he is not sure whether he’ll run.

The job pays $25,000 annually. Ward 1 is approximately bounded by County Line Road, I-55, Lakeland Drive and the Pearl River. The ward has an estimated 26,927 residents. Almost 70 percent of residents are white.
