Bryant Wants Legislation for Chancery Clerk Salaries

They are usually the highest paid elected officials in their counties. Now the State Auditor’s annual report reveals the majority of chancery clerks in Mississippi took home more than 100-thousand dollars last year. The clerks’ salaries are based on fees paid to their offices for filing lawsuits or handling wills. That income is capped at 90-thousand dollars. But often chancery clerks perform other duties. They will serve as county administrator, purchase clerk, or other positions whose income is not capped.
