And then Nikias went further, attributing USC’s recent rocketing up the academic rankings as a tribute to a ” Trojan athletic heritage [that] symbolizes the very energy, optimism and determination that have fueled this university’s historic academic progress in recent decades.”
And in a final sign that Nikias aims to cut ties with all the issues that brought USC to grief in the four-year NCAA investigation, he will return Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trust in August.
Nikias also has ordered the removal from the LA Memorial Coliseum and all campus locations by the time the freshman class arives, any murals and jerseys of Bush and O.J. Mayo, the basketball player implicated in athletics improprieties for which USC has been sanctioned or is self-sanctioning the program.
