Asked about Mackey earlier this week, Houston Nutt answered, “He’s here, and I’m glad he’s here. He looks good, but if you’re asking me how much he can help us, ask me again in mid-September.”

But this is June, and I needed a column, so I had to ask more: Have you ever had a junior college transfer come in and really help you?

“No,” Nutt answered.
