Early high school grads flock to spring football practices
Florida of the SEC has 11 early enrollees, the most nationally. Defending national champion Alabama, another SEC school, has eight.
Johnson had not brought in any such players in his previous eight years at Vandy, although the school had some before that and two were waiting for him when he arrived for the 2002 season.
After that, however, Vanderbilt decided to stop the practice, believing freshmen should arrive all at once in the fall and bond together, Johnson says. However, whenLadler said last summer that he was interested in enrolling early, Johnson went to David Williams, vice chancellor for athletics, with the idea.
