Who will be State’s next AD?

Within the industry, a few names could gain steam. In the realm of associate/assistant athletic directors, keep an eye on Kentucky’s Rob Mullens — even though he might be involved in West Virginia’s vacancy. As for other candidates, let’s remember some of the names that were involved in the search that ended with Byrne’s hiring: Craig Angelos, the AD at Florida Atlantic, and Brad Teague, the AD at Central Arkansas. Of course, there is another name that’s been mentioned often: Joe Dean Jr., the athletic director at Birmingham-Southern College, an analyst for SEC Network games and former State basketball player. He was also very involved in State’s search when Byrne was hired. Ron Hill, an Okolona native and Mississippi State grad, is another name to watch. Hill is a vice president for football operations with the NFL. And the more I talk to those close to the situation, the more I think there’s little chance former AD Larry Templeton would be considered.
