Several candidates for a Signing Day switch

Several candidates for a Signing Day switch

Every year, players switch their commitments at the last moment – often on Signing Day itself.

Usually, it’s a quarterback like Anthony Morelli or Ryan Perrilloux that get all the attention for flipping. But often other positional losses hurt more than losing a quarterback.

Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Mike Farrell takes a look at five players who could change their mind on – or after – Wednesday.

1) ATH Latwan Anderson – Anderson has indicated he might not make his college choice on Signing Day. When he does sign, it might not be with West Virginia – the school to which he is currently committed. Ohio State is lurking here, and there is a lot of talk that Anderson will be a Buckeye in the end. Anderson favors the Mountaineers, but word has it his family – and his high school coaches – would prefer he end up in Columbus.

2) OL Shon Coleman – Coleman is committed to Auburn, but he could flip to Alabama, Ole Miss or Miami. Coleman has been very quiet, and no one seems to have a good read on him. If he sticks with the Tigers, it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise. Alabama is thought to be the biggest threat to Auburn, but keep an eye on Ole Miss. Coleman emerged as one of the top offensive tackle targets in the Southeast after a great senior season and a terrific showing at the U.S. Army All American Bowl.

3) LB Chris McCain – With former teammates Keenan Allen and Gabe King all but committed to Cal, the big question is whether McCain – an Oregon commit – will flip from to the Bears as well. It looks good for Cal and super recruiter Tosh Lupoi to land all three former Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford teammates. It would be an amazing cross-country haul for Cal – if it happens.
