Thompson says he’s Oxford-bound

OXFORD — Ole Miss may not bring in the most in-state recruits this year. But the ones it’s getting certainly appear to be quality.

Carlos Thompson, the No. 2 recruit on The Clarion-Ledger’s Ten Most Wanted list, verbally committed to the Rebels on a WABG broadcast Wednesday night in Greenville.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end is a four-star recruit (on a five-star scale) according to recruiting services Rivals.com and Scout.com.

The commitment is non-binding. The first day recruits can sign a binding letter of intent is National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

“I felt like that’s where I fit in the best,” Thompson said. “The coaches are great and I’ve known them for a while. It’s a good school and I just think I’ll have a lot of fun playing football there.”

Thompson played in high school at Hollandale Simmons, where he was coached by his dad, Carlos Thompson Sr.

“When you factor in everything he was much more comfortable with Ole Miss,” Thompson Sr. said. “We sat down as a family and talked about everything to make absolutely sure that’s what was best for him. He feels really good about it and that’s what’s important.”
