Lovie Smith to Take Tennessee Head Coach Job?
Lovie Smith to take Tennessee head coach job? The vacancy at the University of Tennessee may be filled by Lovie Smith, coach of the Chicago Bears. This won’t be the first time that Tennessee has shown interest in Lovie Smith but many are keeping their fingers crossed that this time, he will take them up on the offer.
Still yet, there’s no official word that Lovie Smith will take the job. There are even those that estimate that the coach of the Bears won’t take the position – even if offered.
Jeff Fisher of the NFL Gridiron states in his blog post “Five Predictable Outcomes from Bears Coach Lovie Smith’s Coaching Staff Makeover“ “Why would a premier program like UT settle for a socially-challenged, mediocre head coach whose recent 3-year record is 2 games below .500?”
On the other hand, Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk.comstated in his blog that “With Smith’s ability to stick around for 2011 riding on the performance of quarterback Jay Cutler and mounting uncertainty regarding a work stoppage after next season, heading to Knoxville makes plenty of sense.” Meaning, the coach’s job is on the line and taking the Tennessee Coaching job would be a good idea for Lovie.
