Gators’ suspension of Spikes a bit on the light side
There’s no doubt that Saturday’s Florida-Georgia game produced a lot of emotion and unnecessary physical nonsense on both sides after the whistle was blown. We will never know everything that transpires at the bottom of piles after a tackle.
But when you’re caught on video poking your hand inside a player’s facemask, as Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes was doing to Georgia running back Washaun Ealey, a half-game suspension for UF’s upcoming game against Vanderbilt strikes me as being a lightweight punishment for a cowardly act.
