Containing McCluster a priority for AU defense
Auburn defensive coordinator Ted Roof calls him “a jet.” Defensive end Antonio Coleman says he’s like mercurial West Virginia running back Noel Devine.
Ole Miss senior Dexter McCluster, who lines up at various positions, will often be the smallest player on the field when the Rebels visit Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. But he’ll also probably be the fastest, and he will have the full attention of Auburn’s defense.
“He’s just like Noel Devine,” Coleman said, “real short, speedy and can make you miss.”
McCluster, 5-foot-8 and 168 pounds, made Arkansas miss a lot in Ole Miss’ 30-17 victory last Saturday. He had career highs rushing and receiving.
“We have to be aware of him,” Roof said. “We have to know where he is on the field. We have to tackle.”
