JOHN PITTS:Rebooting the ’04 draft with new data
Knowing what we know now, who would be the first pick in the 2004 NFL Draft?
It’s reasonable to assume Eli Manning would still wind up in a New York Giants uniform, though I wonder if it would have come through that same draft day deal with San Diego, which held the No. 1 pick.
San Diego might still make that deal, of course, but they already had a fine quarterback on their roster – Drew Brees, who has revived his career in New Orleans. Imagine if they’d taken receiver Larry Fitzgerald instead. Brees-to-Fitzgerald, opening up even more running room for LaDanian Tomlinson? Yikes!
