Bordow: Cards shaped themselves in mold of Steelers

The Cardinals are emblematic of the modern-day NFL. Spread the field with four or five receivers, throw it 40 to 50 times, and hope the defense and running game show up that particular Sunday.

But it would be a mistake to assume the teams have nothing in common. Although the approaches are dissimilar, coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm have imbued the Cardinals with some of the Steelers’ legendary toughness.
“Ken wants a physical team on both sides of the ball at all times,” center Lyle Sendlein said.

Toughness is not a word that’s normally associated with the Cardinals. In past years, their resolve has been about as thick as one-ply toilet paper. But think about what they’ve done the past couple of months.
