Meyer Praises Strong; Gator Defense Speaks for Itself
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Florida Coach Urban Meyer became angry just once in his briefing Friday morning, the day after the Bowl Championship Series title game. It was when he started talking about Charlie Strong, his defensive coordinator, who put together a masterly game plan to slow Oklahoma’s high-powered offense in the Gators’ 24-14 victory.
The Sooners had scored 60 or more points in five consecutive games, but found themselves in a quagmire of penalties, turnovers and referee whistles. They failed to find a consistent rhythm for almost the entire game.
