LSU football coaching positions remain up in air
BATON ROUGE – While considerable uncertainty continues to surround the matter, LSU is expected to hold a press conference or make an announcement later today about new defensive coaches for its football team.
Head coach Les Miles is presumably seeking a secondary coach and a defensive line coach, although those positions are not formally open at LSU. Co-defensive coordinator Doug Mallory, who handles secondary duties, will be “going on to other things,” Miles said after LSU beat then-No. 14 Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis will be named to that post at LSU, according to several reports LSU has not confirmed but done nothing to refute. Chavis, who handles linebackers, will take on those duties formerly under Bradley Dale Pevoto, who left to become head coach at Northwestern State. Chavis reportedly has candidates he would like to bring as position coaches but it is not clear if those choices have been cleared with Miles.
