FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas linebacker Freddy Burton and wide receiver Marques Wade have been suspended for the first two games of the 2008 season because of offseason arrests.
Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino announced the suspensions one day after Burton pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated. Wade was arrested for driving while intoxicated and careless driving early Sunday morning and has an arraignment date scheduled later this month.
“We have suspended Freddy and Marques for the first two games of the season,” Petrino said in a statement released by the university. “While the athletic department policy in development for addressing these types of issues calls for a one game suspension, I felt that a two-game suspension was appropriate in both of these cases.
