Polk signs on as UAB volunteer
STARKVILLE — Don’t write Ron Polk out of coaching just yet.
The longtime former Mississippi State coach who resigned from that post earlier this year was named Tuesday as a volunteer assistant at Alabama-Birmingham. He’ll assist head coach Brian Shoop, a Polk assistant at State from 1983-89.
Polk plans to keep his home in Starkville and will rent an apartment in Birmingham. The no-paycheck volunteer assistant job is a far cry from the close to $300,000 he made in his last season as the Mississippi State coach.
