Bucks could get title rematch in ‘09
Preseason top 25 lists are such hackneyed tools for columnists and bloggers. It is such an arbitrary compiling of information. What exactly do these lists even rank? Well, in my case, it’s sort of a hodgepodge of prediction, estimated team strength, and how pleased each team’s fans will be at the end of the season. I mean, why not? It’s not like there have been any games played.
1. Ohio State: It is simply impossible to consider this a homer pick. Every single unit besides the quarterbacks (which includes a returning senior starter and the most hyped recruit of the Internet Age) is easily in the top 10 in the country. The schedule is also very favorable, besides the early trip out to Las Angeles. Sigh. The expectations for this team are depressingly high for the 2008 season. However, with 20(ish) returning starters, there is, at this point, little evidence for concern
2. Florida: I should say that this is not a prediction that there will be a rematch of the 2007 Championship game. However, Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer lead an offensively horrifying team with an improved defense. They also have excellent receivers and should beat Georgia for the 16th time in 19 years in the Cocktail Party.
3. USC: Pretty much as stacked on defense as Ohio State. The offense breaks in a new quarterback, and we know how badly USC does with those. They also only have eight five-star tailbacks this year. Blah blah blah USC is awesome blah blah always national title contender blah blah Pete Carroll blah blah blah seventh straight Pac-10 title. Blah.
