Lee Co. Judge asks MSSC to rescind his removal from office

Thompson asks for his removal to be rescinded

Having exhausted the normal course of appeals with the Mississippi Supreme Court, Judge Rickey Thompson has filed a motion to rescind his removal from office.

Thompson presided over Lee County Justice Court Wednesday afternoon, the day before the state’s highest court set for Thompson to leave his office because of judicial misconduct.

But today’s removal could be delayed while the Supreme Court considers the latest motion…

…On Sept. 17, 2014, the commission recommended Thompson be removed from office. The Supreme Court ordered Thompson removed from the bench on May 21 and refused to rehear the case on Aug. 6.

The Lee County Democratic Executive Committee has scheduled a meeting for Aug. 22 to select a candidate to replace Thompson on the November ballot.
