Governor Bryant appoints new state Parole Board member
JACKSON– Gov. Phil Bryant has appointed Steven Pickett of Raymond to serve as the newest member of the Mississippi Parole Board.
Pickett will replace Danny Guice Jr. of Ocean Springs, who is resigning effective Nov. 9. Pickett’s term begins Nov. 10.
“Steven Pickett brings a vast amount of law enforcement experience to the Mississippi Parole Board,” Gov. Bryant said. “I appreciate his willingness to serve and bring that law enforcement experience to this important body.”
Pickett is currently serving as Youth Court Resource Officer and is responsible for oversight of grants and various projects for the Hinds County Youth Court. He has also served as deputy chancery clerk and Justice Court judge in Hinds County and served the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department from 1996-2007 and 2008-2012.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Governor’s appointment to the Mississippi Parole Board, and I look forward to serving,” Pickett said. “I will serve with an appreciation for justice and be mindful of the victims and their families.”
The board is comprised of one chairman and four active members, each appointed at-large. The board meets weekly to review the cases of state offenders to determine parole eligibility. Pickett’s appointment will be brought before the Mississippi Senate for confirmation in the 2013 legislative session.
