Petitions To Ban Eminent Domain Submitted In Miss.

Jackson, Mississippi – Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation President David Waide says he’s confident voters will approve an amendment that would ban the government from taking private property for private economic development projects.
The federation delivered petitions to the secretary of state’s office Thursday in hopes of putting the proposed eminent domain restriction on the November 2011 ballot.
It takes at least 89,285 certified signatures of registered voters to get an initiative on the ballot. The federation says it has collected 119,251. The secretary of state’s office must verify the numbers.
