Bill wasn’t given enough consideration

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 17, 2009

The Hattiesburg Amercian Editorial, 2/17/9

Now that the $787 billion stimulus package has cleared Congress and awaits President Barack Obama’s signature, what can we expect?

The measure, approved with only three Republican votes despite Obama’s efforts to cobble together a package that would have bipartisan support, was approved quickly on Friday so Congress could begin its week-long President’s Day recess.

Many lawmakers are spending the time off on trips to various parts of the globe, according to an Associated Press report, while the folks back home try to figure out what is actually included in the stimulus bill.

Congress acted too hastily in passing this bill. We defy a majority of them to explain what is actually in the massive document.
