No JATRAN cut, riders told by mayor, council

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 28, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 1/28/9

Jackson city leaders promised a room full of JATRAN bus riders Tuesday they would not be left without public transportation.

Bus riders packed the City Council chamber for a public hearing on a plan to cut four routes and reduce the remaining bus service.

“It is very clear that we’re being premature in this decision,” Mayor Frank Melton said. “I am not inclined to execute any documents to cut any routes out.”

If the city does not make cuts to its public bus service, JATRAN will go over budget this fiscal year.
