Utility: Contract sales led to refund

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 9, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 1/9/9

Entergy Corp. has acknowledged in a letter to state regulators that it sold power to Mississippi in 2005 from a subsidiary under a fuel contract that years earlier led to a refund of $72 million to Louisiana customers.

The letter is the latest development in the legal battle between Entergy and Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood.

Hood has filed a lawsuit against Entergy and its subsidiaries asserting that they illegally manipulated the purchase and sale of electricity to maximize profits.

The company sent the letter in response to an order by the Mississippi Public Service Commission, which regulates energy and gas providers in the state, following a statement by an Entergy representative.

“We have got to make sure that Mississippians are not paying more for energy than they should,” PSC Vice Chairman Brandon Presley said Thursday.
