Watson named to Senate drug policy committee
Watson, R-Pascagoula, said that he’s honored to be working with a diverse group of senators on a situation affecting communities statewide.
“It’s important to face this difficult, growing problem, but even more important to face it as a state,” Watson said.
Bryant appointed Sen. Sid Albritton, R-Picayune, to serve as the chairman of the committee. Albritton is a former narcotics officer and detective.
“Sen. Albritton brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about the many drug problems facing our state,” Bryant said.
Albritton said, “I appreciate the lieutenant governor’s forethought and vision in recognizing the need to take a new approach in dealing with the drug problems in Mississippi. I look forward to serving as chairman and working with the lieutenant governor and the Senate in developing legislation to address substance abuse in this state.”
Sen. David Blount, D-Jackson, will serve as vice chairman.
Other members of the committee include Sens. Lydia Chassaniol, R-Winona; Vincent Davis, D-Fayette; Deborah Dawkins, D-Pass Christian; Joey Fillingane, R-Sumrall; Gary Jackson, R-French Camp; David Jordan, D-Greenwood; Eric Powell, D-Corinth; and Lee Yancey, R-Brandon.
