By: Magnolia Tribune - December 31, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 12/30/8

Former State Sen. Ed Morgan is the new leader of the Mississippi Tax Commission, Gov. Haley Barbour announced today.

Morgan, a Republican from Hattiesburg who lost his 2007 re-election bid, begins his new job Thursday. He takes over for Tax Commission Chairman Joe Blount, who is retiring.

Morgan served four years in the state Senate. He is also a former mayor of Hattiesburg.

“I look forward to the ongoing challenge of increasing the efficiency and the productivity of the Tax Commission while focusing on fair taxation of all Mississippians,” he said in a statement.
