Furniture group seeks state, local incentives

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 9, 2008

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 12/9/8

For every dollar invested in the furniture industry, the state gets back about $4.

And with a value of some $5 billion, the continued viability of the Mississippi furniture industry is critical, said Ken Pruett, president of the Mississippi Furniture Association.

“The furniture industry is a great return on investment,” Pruett said. “That’s why we have to make sure everyone is aware of its importance and why we need to do what we can to make sure it survives.”

The MFA has in recent months met with state officials, including the Mississippi Development Authority, state legislators and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant to talk about incentives the group says would bring back jobs to the state.

Pruett also will meet with the state Senate Finance Committee on Thursday.
