Vote set on smoking measure

Vote set on smoking measure

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 1, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 7/1/8

The Jackson City Council is split evenly on a proposed smoking ordinance on city businesses, with three council members favoring a complete smoking ban and three who would exempt nightclubs and bars.

As the competing proposals head to a vote this morning, the decision likely rests with the one uncommitted council member. And he is not saying which way he will go.

“I’m just going to take my time and see what the pros and cons are and make my decision then,” Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes said.

Stokes was absent from Monday’s work session where council members fretted over an issue that has hovered over city government for months.
