Congressional budget deal: Harper, Thompson vote yes; Palazzo, Kelly vote no

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 29, 2015

Miss. lawmakers split on budget deal

Mississippi’s Republican lawmakers voted against the deal, with the exception of Rep. Gregg Harper, R-3rd District. The state’s only Democratic lawmaker, Rep. Bennie Thompson, voted for it.

Here’s what the lawmakers had to say about the budget agreement:

“This bill is nothing more than cost-shuffling budget gimmicks. … This legislation honestly has me questioning whether there was actually a Republican in the room when negotiations took place.’’ – Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-4th District.

“After careful consideration of the numerous aspects of this bill, I could not vote to support it. While there are positive components, I feel that in its entirety it is not a good bill.’’ – Rep. Trent Kelly, R-1st District.
