RELEASE:

COCHRAN STATEMENT ON TIGER GRANT FUNDING FOR JACKSON

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement praising the U.S. Department of Transportation’s decision to award $16.5 million in grant funding to the City of Jackson for infrastructure improvements:

“This funding is an important investment in Jackson’s continued growth. The roadway and infrastructure improvements in the vital North State Street and County Line Road corridors will benefit businesses and residents alike. I appreciate Secretary Foxx’s willingness to work with the City of Jackson and the Appropriations Committee to secure this important investment in our capital city.”

On October 26, Cochran called Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber to inform him of the award. Congress annually appropriates funding for TIGER grants, which are awarded on a competitive and matching fund basis, and are directed toward projects that are expected to have a significant economic impact.
