U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker tours Mississippi Sound, gets updates on restoration, fishing industry

BILOXI, Mississippi — Included in U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker’s tour of Mississippi was a one-hour trip aboard a Mississippi Department of Resources boat to tour the Mississippi Sound and get updates on the fishing industry and Gulf restoration efforts, among other topics.

Wicker was joined by MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller, Shrimp & Crab Bureau Director Rick Burris and a few other MDMR staffers, along with the media, for the one-hour tour in which MDMR personnel emptied a crab trap and trawled for shrimp to be taken back for data collection.

“I’m down here on the coast for several things,” Wicker said afterward. “I taped a television show earlier, I’ll be meeting with shipbuilders tonight and we had some personnel matters to take care of.
