Barbour: Primary didn’t help Mitt

GOP bigwig Haley Barbour said on Tuesday that his party’s extended primary campaign hurt eventual nominee Mitt Romney and suggested future primary debates should be sponsored exclusively by conservative organizations — not the “liberal media elite.”

“I thought our nomination contest was not helpful to anybody,” Barbour said on MSNBC. “I didn’t think it made anybody look good. To have 25 debates is one bad idea, a second bad idea is to let the liberal media elite control the debates. You know, if you’re going to have the debates, let them be sponsored by The Heritage Foundation or let them be sponsored by the Republican National Committee.”
