A former employee of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes.

Attorney General Jim Hood says 51-year-old Steven Craig Walter, of Jackson, appeared Monday before Judge Winston Kidd in Hinds County Circuit Court and entered the open plea to two counts of accepting bribes from defendants to fix cases while employed with the district attorney. An open plea means the defendant refuses to accept the state’s recommended sentence and instead throws himself on the mercy of the court.

Kidd ordered a pre-sentence investigation before he imposes sentence. A sentencing date has not been set.
