Nunnelee, Morris square off in Mississippi congressional debate

U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee on Thursday defended charges that the 112th Congress is the worst in history, saying that the nation needs fewer, not more, laws to solve the nation’s economic and social problems.

“I’m not going to try to defend the credibility of Congress,” Nunnelee said during a debate with Democratic challenger Brad Morris, an Oxford lawyer and businessman, at the University of Mississippi’s Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics.

Nunnelee, a Republican from Tupelo, is seeking his second term from North Mississippi’s 1st District in the Nov. 6 general election.
