Mississippi college educators’ pay low
College professors who teach in Mississippi are paid, on average, $10,000 a year less than their colleagues across the Southeast.
As faculty contracts come up for renewal in the coming weeks, such disparities have some universities worried about their ability to attract and keep quality instructors.
“Faculty who come here – to any of the Mississippi universities – after they get a few years under their belt can get very good offers from around the country,” said Mississippi Valley State University Faculty Senate President Paul Schreiber. “The universities here just aren’t able to match them.”
