CA – Nunnelee to be named a ‘Young Gun’ Thursday

WASHINGTON — Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District Republican candidate Alan Nunnelee will be named a “Young Gun” by the National Republican Congressional Committee on Thursday morning, making him eligible for more campaign cash.

Nunnelee, a state senator representing Lee and Pontotoc counties, is seeking the Republican nomination in the race for the seat now held by Travis W. Childers, a Democrat. Republicans Henry Ross, a former mayor of Eupora, and Angela McGlowan, a former Fox News analyst, are also seeking the GOP nomination.

Andy Sere, a spokesman for the NRCC, said the announcement will be made on Thursday. Before the announcement there were only 10 “Young Gun” designees; on Thursday, there will be 23. The program is intended to boost the stature of challenger and open-seat candidates, Sere said.
