300 attend Wicker’s town hall

The majority of the audience was made up of older adults. The audience appeared to oppose the reforms proposed by President Barack Obama. Wicker warned the audience that the health care reform bill as it is will cost too much money, could mean cuts to Medicare, which much of the audience appeared to oppose, and would run private insurance companies out of business.
“This is right at home. I had back surgery in December and lost my insurance in March. This is very personal. I have to pay as I go now,” said Hayward Simonton, who supports health care reform.
“It’s just a matter of the approach we take. On the one hand are these people who want a total takeover of one-sixth of our economy, and on the other, people who want to do it through competition,” Wicker said.
