OXFORD — About one week ago, ESPN.com college football analyst Joe Schad got in front of the TV cameras on SportsCenter and proclaimed that Ole Miss was the seventh-best team in the nation coming into the 2009 season.
Amazingly, he was dead serious.
“They had a great finish last season by winning the Cotton Bowl, return their star quarterback and an athletic defense and have one of the best coaches in the country,” Schad said a few days after the show aired.
“That sounds like a Top 10 team to me.”
