Pitino denied the honors he deserves

Rick Pitino’s name isn’t in the rotation for coaching awards anymore. He won nine of them in his first 12 seasons as a college basketball coach. He’s won one — 2005 Conference USA Coach of the Year — in eight seasons at Louisville.
Being very good isn’t good enough for Pitino anymore. Voters expect his teams to be extraordinary, nearly flawless. I guess some guys consider a 25-win season by Pitino team old news.

“It’s a complete joke Rick hasn’t been a finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame the last two years,” Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese said. “Some people must hold it against him that he coached in the NBA.”
