Mayor says deal ‘done’ for houses

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 23, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 2/21/9

Mayor Frank Melton announced Friday at City Hall that the city is no longer concerned about safety issues at a new south Jackson development and will allow 19 families to move in this weekend.

About 200 people have paid deposits and are waiting for the go-ahead to move into the Timber Falls/Forest Hills Place developments. But a clash this week at City Hall over safety concerns threatened to delay the already slow move-in process.

The Jackson City Council held a special meeting Friday to get an update on the problems.

Melton said he worked with developer Clarence Chapman of Chartre Consulting Ltd. in Oxford this week and is now confident the 19 homes are safe for occupancy.
