Area clergy gathered on the steps of City Hall on Monday to pray for Mayor Frank Melton’s health.
Melton, meanwhile, was far from Jackson, recovering from a recent hospital stay at his family’s home in Tyler, Texas.
John Reeves, Melton’s attorney, said the mayor is expected to return to Jackson later this week.
Melton has been in and out of St. Dominic Hospital three times since November. According to court documents, the mayor is in end-stage cardiomyopathy, a serious condition that prevents the heart from properly pumping blood.
