ATLANTA — Another name has surfaced as a possible new defensive coordinator on the LSU coaching staff.
The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y., reported in Friday editions that fired Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson may have been contacted by LSU.
Robinson was quoted as saying that a move to LSU would be “reaching a little bit,” but he did not deny contact with LSU.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette did not confirm any LSU contact with Robinson, who was previously the defensive co-coordinator at Texas in 2004 and a defensive coordinator in the NFL for a decade.
Bonnette said there is no opening on the LSU staff.
The Tigers’ defense did suffer through its worst season this decade, though, as it finished No. 81 in the nation and No. 12 in the Southeastern Conference in pass defense with 220.8 yards allowed a game and No. 66 nationally and No. 11 in the SEC in points allowed with 25.9 points a game under co-coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto. LSU also finished No. 37 in the nation and No. 9 in the SEC in total defense with 326.5 yards allowed a game.
