BULLDOGS:MSU’s defense was team’s highlight
The Good: The defense did its part. Keith Fitzhugh snuffed out two Tech scoring chances with interceptions, and MSU’s pass defense as a whole was solid despite the absence of senior free safety Derek Pegues.
State yielded just 269 yards, 130 of those in the second half.
One glaring stat: No sacks for State. But the Bulldogs got in plenty of licks on quarterback Taylor Bennett, who was 14-for-40 for 175 yards. Tech’s two touchdown drives covered 9 and 13 yards.
– The Bad: Anthony Dixon, he of the 1,000-yard 2007 season, got all of 18 carries. He totaled 91 yards, the same as the team’s net total, and six of his runs moved the first-down markers.
